Anna and her family are Jewish and before Hitler is elected as Chancellor of Germany in 1933, her Papa, a famous writer, senses the dangers about to face them and moves his family to safety in Switzerland. When they learn that there is a price on his head, Papa then moves his family once again, but this time to France. Despite having very little possessions or money, Anna and her family adapt to life in another country where no-one except their Papa speaks the language. Finally beginning to feel like she belongs somewhere, Anna and her family are uprooted once more to live in England.

Whilst technically a book for young adults, I was intrigued to read this book. It is written as a semi-autobiography as the author wanted her own children to understand to what lengths her parents had gone to keep her and her brother Max safe. A beautiful story of one of the most atrocious periods in history, told through the eyes of an innocent child.
